Addressing Your Mail
All the mail that you hand over to us must meet our addressing standards
All the mail that you hand over to us as Access mail must meet our clear addressing standards and be sorted to our sortation selection codes (please see Preparing Your Mail from the links above and the Services List that can be found on clicking on the link on the left), to ensure each item can be read and delivered efficiently.
Customers must ensure that at least 90% of items are fully and accurately addressed and postcoded in accordance with Royal Mail's Postcode Address File (PAF®), please click on the link to the left to find out more. Some services require a higher address accuracy level - the Premium service requires a minimum 95% address and postcode accuracy.
We incentivise customers - through lower prices - to use machinable mail formats that meet one of our three machinable specifications: Mailmark, Optical Character Recognition font (OCR) or Customer Barcoded font (CBC). Our customers need to demonstrate that they can meet their chosen machinable mail specification before posting and will be asked to submit test packs for up-front accreditation.
Mailmark
It has been designed for high volume, high quality machine readable mail and will provide you with powerful tools to analyse your mailings.

OCR (Optical Character Recognition)
Royal Mail uses scanning software with OCR to allow mail to be machine sorted. But it only works if addresses are printed in the right size and font, so your printer must match these standards.
The technical requirements that you will need to meet for an OCR mailing can be found in the User Guide. If you have any further questions, please contact us.
