Customers wishing to have access to Royal Mail’s delivery network must sort their mail before delivering it into a Royal Mail Inward Mail Centre.
Our services are based upon four levels of sorting, and the degree of sortation that you perform before handover is reflected in our pricing structure. A summary of these options is provided below. There are further technical details in our User Guides that you will need to meet.
Access 70, 120 and 700 are Royal Mail Wholesale sortation services for letter and large letter format mailing items that are presented in trays or ALPS.
The Access 70, 120 and 700 services require that mail arrives at our Inward Mail Centres (IMCs) sorted to 88 selections. Each posting must comprise of at least 4000 mailing items per day.
The services are available across all Access Agreements and may be used with Responsible Mail and Advertising Mail service options. These services offer lower prices for items that meet the OCR and CBC specifications (700 is only available for CBC letters).
In this case your mail must arrive at an IMC already sorted to c.1400 selections (based on Royal Mail’s postcode districts). This service is designed for mailing items that do not meet the machineable specification requirements of our OCR and CBC services.
The Walksort service is being withdrawn on 3rd September 2012 as we no longer gain operational benefits from this service. For Walksort, mail must arrive at an IMC sorted c.67,000 selections and your mailing items must go to at least one in ten (10%) of all the households within the area being posted to (the “coverage area”); more details on this can be found in the Walksort Appendix in the User Guide
Please note: for any Royal Mail product or service used, we may choose to process Letter items through our automation equipment in our Mail Centres. If we do so, UK-destined Letters may have a printed impression detailing ‘Delivered by Royal Mail’ placed in the top centre area of the item. More information on this 'Royal Mail Mark' is available on our website here.
